When people ask me what a day in my life at Ocean’s looks like, I always respond with ‘Anything you want it to be.’ That’s because the day is yours to make the most of since you predominantly work at night. Before my role at Ocean’s, I was the Editor at Sri Lanka’s most prominent digital lifestyle media platform. I worked with numerous clients and creatives across industries, ensuring that we created the best content that sparked conversations and created awareness on topics that needed to be discussed here in Sri Lanka.
When I was ready for my next big move, I knew I wanted to gain international experience and work with brands that could take my skill set to new heights. As an aspiring entrepreneur, working with a startup felt like the right fit for me. It offers the opportunity to learn and grow alongside the business while gaining hands-on experience across different departments. I was beyond excited when Ocean’s matched me with the Founder of a PR agency based in San Francisco since it neatly tied in with my media, marketing, and PR experience here in Sri Lanka (Ocean’s really is the Tinder (or Bumble?) of all businesses - matchmaking done right!)
If you ask me what the role of an EA is and what it could potentially be - I would say it's anything you make of it and how far you’re willing to swim with it (no pun intended). I started out with the typical admin, business operational roles where I was essentially brought in to handle more administrative and time-consuming tasks so my executive could focus on growing the business, supporting clients, and mentoring the team. Soon enough, I was not just the right-hander to the Founder but ultimately the backbone of the whole agency.
Today, my responsibilities are multifaceted. I work as a growth marketer, a client acquisition manager, a thought leader, a writer, an editor, a proofreader, a designer, and a researcher, among many other tasks. I’m part of a team that brainstorms and strategically executes creative campaigns for clients across various industries, including AI, Fintech, and e-commerce. Every day is different in the world of PR with a new set of challenges, and as a Right Hand to the Founder, bringing order to the chaos equips you with skill sets essential in today's job market.
As a Diver who has been working at Ocean’s since its early stages, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come and how set the company is in its core values and principles. Even if you feel overwhelmed, just knowing that there’s always a team that would never let you dive alone is such a rare feeling.
My role at Ocean’s isn’t just about managing administrative and operational tasks; working closely with my Founder has opened my eyes to a whole new world of how business should be done, where every challenge is met with resilience and every success is a shared triumph. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being a Right-Hand to the Founder, it’s that you are part of something bigger—where you’re encouraged to stretch beyond conventional boundaries and make a meaningful impact on your client and the business.
So if you’re ready to dive into a role that’s as diverse as the Ocean itself, always remember: at Ocean’s, the only limit is how far you’re willing to swim (yes, that was an intended pun).
We help you plug highly-skilled and vetted global talent into your business, so you can focus on Building Brilliantly.
